Richard Ibarra Lara

Richard Ibarra Lara, a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away at his home in the loving presence of family, friends, and loved ones on September 17, 2026. Born on November 7, 1957, in Edinburgh, Texas, Richard was the cherished second son of Fidel and Paula Lara. He is predeceased by his father, Fidel, but leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Richard is survived by his two children, Eva Marina Lara and Richard Lara, and his two grandchildren, Savanah Christine Lara and Richard Giovanni Lara. His family continues to grow with the joy of two great-grandchildren, Mariana Ivy Gonzalez and Michael Elias Gonzalez. Richard’s life was also enriched by his siblings: Fidel & Maria Lara, Blanca & Denny Moyer, Rosa & Jaime Lomeli, Angelica Lara, and Fernando Lara, along with many nieces, nephews, and great-nephews and great-nieces. He shared a special bond with his extended family, Vidal, Jessica, their beautiful girls & Mama Chela Romero, the Galindos, and his loyal dog, Shadow, who was a constant companion.

For 25 years, Richard dedicated himself to the field of construction, working tirelessly as a skilled cement layer. His work was not just a job but a testament to his determination and strong work ethic.

Richard had a wide array of interests that brought him joy. An avid cowboy at heart, he found peace in tending to and riding his horses. He loved fishing with his father and brothers, and was often the life of the party, dancing to his favorite Tejano artists. Richard’s smile was infectious—when it was big, his eyes got small, radiating happiness and joy to all around him. He lived with Tejano pride, embracing life with vigor and a scrappy nature that meant he never backed down from a challenge.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Richard’s loving community and extended family at Niles St. Your unwavering support, care, and companionship made an immeasurable impact on Richard’s life. He knew that with you all there, he was never alone. You loved him like a family, filling his belly and heart. For that we are immensely grateful. Special thanks to Sonya Lujan, his strong-willed, feisty caregiver, whose friendship and dedication gave Richard comfort, laughter, companionship, and joy in his final days.

A celebration of Richard’s life will be held on October 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Alma Funeral Home, located at 2130 E California Ave. Bakersfield, California 93307. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a man who lived life large and with love.
